How it Started

The idea for ComiCase was born, very much the same way that many successful inventions come about, realizing a need and fulfilling that need. The journey started in Gary’s Comics and More in Morgantown, WV.  The creator, Jim Smith II, is a long-time customer of Gary’s and had stopped by the store over the weekend after purchasing a highly sought after variant edition comic earlier in the week.  He was looking for a relatively inexpensive display case for his new found treasure, but ended up walking out empty handed.  Gary had informed Jim that the case he was looking for didn’t exist and the only options that were available were very expensive and in some cases were a little less than desirable in the protective aspect of a true case, while making it very hard if not impossible to access the book for reading later on.  Being a college student, he didn’t want to spend a lot, but wanted to display and protect his new piece of loot.  He suddenly exclaimed “I will BUILD IT!”

So, we assembled a team, engineers, technical assistants, marketing gurus and we were off.  We kept focused on a goal of an inexpensive case that included everything a collector needed. We talked to hundreds of collectors and store owners over the next few months as we developed prototype after prototype until we knew that we had every feature incorporated into the design. At last ComiCase, a reusable, resealable, rigid casing system that allowed for archival storage of your collection, protection unsurpassed in the industry, and display options that were as simple as they were affordable, was born!  Now, that’s what we call a COMICASE!

  1. James, Thank you for showing interest in ComiCase! We are receiving this question alot! Our products are not on the market yet but we are heading in that direction.

ComiCase is going to be featured on KickStarter, and you will have the opportunity to pledge to the ComiCase Campaign in exchange for cases, frames, t-shirts, and other loot. Our Kickstarter campaign is set to start on October 21st. Until then, let’s get the word out on this great product to everyone in the comic community so that we can make the Kickstarter Campaign an immediate success!

    • Luis, Thank you for your interest in supporting ComiCase! Our kickstarter campaign has not yet been launched. we are currently putting together the final touches, and plan to launch later this month. Keep checking back for updates, and in the meantime help spread the word about ComiCase!

    • Thanks for your interest! We should be launching our Kickstarter campaign later this week. Keep checking our Facebook and Twitter page for updates and help spread the word about ComiCase in the meantime!

  2. So after seeing a damage proofing video on YouTube I was really interested in your product.
Then once I came to your site, I got excited until I saw you time line of when your kickstarter will be up. With your last post being 10/16/13 and today being 11/30/13 and nothing on kickstarter yet, I was wondering if there are other ways to help get this product out there for us comic book fans?

    Thank you
    Griffin

    • Thanks for your interest in ComiCase! Sorry that you were not able to find what you were looking for. We will be posting an update about our new Kick Starter Campaign tonight. Be sure to check that out for more information on what we are up too and how you can get your hands on some ComiCases!

  3. I love the idea! Its almost like getting your comics graded without the hefty price tag.I have alot of comics that I wanna protect autographed and what not. Plus the plastic and cardboard sometimes my comics still get ruined. Ps hope to see your product at my local comic shop soon!

    • That is exactly what we were shooting for! If you would like to see us in your local store, have them contact us for retailer pricing. We are running a really awesome retailer incentive right now, that they should probably take advantage of. Our e-commerce site should be up soon, and then you will also have the option of purchasing through our secure store. Thank you for the support!

  4. Hi- Congratulations on a great idea for a great product. My comics are all golden silver & bronze so I’ll have to wait, but while I do I have a few questions. 1.) What’s your estimated retail price once production begins? 2.) I see there’s an interlocking system for stacks side-by-side. Is there any interlock when it’s just a single stack? That is, if I have a single stack of comics maybe 24 high is there any system to prevent the entire single stack from just slip-sliding apart? Thanks and Good Luck!

    • The current age will hold assorted bronze age comics, so you won’t have to wait long at all! To answer your question, the retail price for the case will be $6. Our e-commerce site will be live soon, and we will be offering a discount code through our Facebook page for early purchasers so stay tuned. Also, there is no locking system for single stacks. They are a wide case that can be stacked and remain stable as long as you don’t go too high. This was done this way so that if someone wanted to continue using boxes for storage, the ComiCases wouldn’t stick together when you tried to pull one from the boxes. Hope this helps!!!
